Village Market Returns

After a long 18 months of lockdowns and restrictions the Village Market resumed in October and was a resounding success.

The next market will be held in the hall on Saturday 13th November 10am - 12.30pm.

So please come along and support the market and maybe enjoy a cuppa and a bacon butty, we look forward to seeing you there.

Wake Hosted at the Village Hall

The Village Hall and Harbour View Bar was recently honoured and humbled to host a wake at the request of a local family.

Phase 1 Complete

Main Hall

The 1st phase of the refurbishment is now complete and we have reopened, (although still observing Covid-19 advice.)

Phase 1 has seen many changes to the village hall including new windows, a new boiler installed and photovoltaic cells on the roof, this along with new LED lights are all helping towards the energy efficiency of the hall and our efforts to help tackle climate change.

The main hall has new audio/visual equipment including a new ceiling mounted projector and screen, there is also a hearing loop installed. New stage curtains have been hung and new tables and chairs delivered. The hall floor has been re-sanded and sealed.

Harbour View Bar has had some remodelling to increase the floor area and new furniture to complement the ambiance for a relaxing drink.

The short mat bowls room on the 1st floor has benefited from new Velux windows giving much improved ventilation and light to the room.

The 1st floor meeting room is now available to hire as a small meeting room.

These 1st floor rooms including the skittles room (which has new ‘bumpers’) can now be reached using the Stannah stair lift improving the disabled access.

The whole building has benefited from a refreshing coat of paint and the toilets have all been updated.

PHASE 2

The second phase due to start imminently will include the disabled ramp at the front of the hall leading to the newly installed automatic front door and also the replacement of the oil tank.

We would like to thank the following organisations that have funded the refurbishment

We hope you will agree the refurbishment works completed at the hall will futureproof the hall for the coming years continuing its place at the hub of our community.

First Site Meeting

DSCN1263.JPG

The first site meeting was held at the hall today, Thursday 8th April with Pete, Marcus and Sue representing the Village Hall Committee, Michael the Architect and Peter and Paul from HBC builders. Great progress has been made and all is on track.

Harbour View has been completely dismantled and stripped back (discovering some interesting wallpaper!), they’ve made a start on the electrics and work has begun in the kitchen and Bowls Room. Check out the Gallery to see pictures of the progress.

Scaffolding will be erected on Monday 12th April for the installation of new windows, solar panels, Velux windows for the Bowls Room and to repaint the outside render. We also hope to remove the weather vane to clean it up and reinstall it, so there are exciting times ahead.

The Trustees are now busy choosing kitchen cupboards, paint, flooring, light fittings and doors.

The next site meeting will be in 2 weeks time and you can read all about the progress on this blog and on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
